Time Capsule

Question: Can I keep a record of my memory in augmented reality attached to actual places?

I am very interested in human memory and how to archive those memories. This project is one of the other "memory keeping" methods I am experimenting. I'm trying to attach memories with location just using more than a map. I want to keep memories in augmented reality to make users see memories layered upon the real world.

1. Annotating on the map

I used Mapbox for the annotation on the customized map and to use the coordinates easily. I picked 3 places near school and wrote short note on each places.

2. Navigation and Map design

I started to design the maps trying different styles. I added buttons that navigates through pages-map, AR camera view and inventory page that has lists of memories.

3. Adding text and image to the current coordinates

After separating pages into map, AR, and inventory, I started to work on AR contents. I created textfield that users can leave notes to the place and also an image that says "your memory is here" to indicate the attached memory. Everything will exist in that specific place(using coordinates)

4. Sound note and snapshots

To capture the moment even better, I decided to use the snapshots and sound notes that users can record. All the sound notes, pictures and texts will be attached to the place.

Next steps

Now the question is how to make all these processes understandable and attractive enough to users. Also I will make all those AR contents fade away, until the time that users set. It will work like a time capsule and recall memories in the future attached to the place.
